‘Closest for a Cause’ Event Raises $1400 for Local Charity
Yarra Golf hosted its first-ever ‘Closest for a Cause’ event last Friday, 28 March, with a goal to raise funds for the local charity, Friends in Common.
The evening was a massive success, drawing in both club members and guests who participated in an engaging “Nearest the Pin” competition held on the club’s new indoor golf simulator. For just $5, each participant was given three shots to land closest to the hole.
With plenty of sideline support, the competition was fierce, but it was local member Daniel Fasoli who emerged as the champion, landing his ball just 52cm from the pin. Daniel received a $200 golf club voucher for his talented iron play.
The competition wasn’t the only charity event of the night, with 50% of the ticket sales from the Friday night raffle going directly to Friends in Common.
The charity, which supports cancer patients in the Yarrawonga and Mulwala region, was well-represented by a team of volunteers who manned the raffle table, ensuring guests were aware of the valuable services they provide to the community.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of those who attended and participated, the event raised a total of $1,400, which will go towards assisting local cancer patients with travel and accommodation costs, helping ease their burdens during difficult times.
The club extends its thanks to all who supported the cause, and made the event such a wonderful success.
Friends in Common volunteer, Leon Porter, expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, noting that it is through community support like this that they are able to continue their vital work in the region.
“I would like to thank YMGCR for inviting us to participate in this fantastic event. In particular, I would like to thank Rob Alexander and Peter Savy, who spent the whole evening running the competition, and William Hargreaves, who assisted our ladies with the raffle. The evening would not have been as successful as it was without the participation of the players, so a big thank you to them.”
